What are the Benefits of 1·2·3 Sing With Me classes?

Experts agree that music enhances learning and helps babies and adults communicate. Our carefully selected program of nursery rhymes, songs and stories help develop language skills & numeracy skills. We play musical instruments together which helps develop fine & gross motor skills and interaction with other children develops social skills and boosts confidence.

In each weekly class, parents/carers are encouraged to join in – and for good reason. It has been shown that children benefit from activities in which their parents or carers interact with them.

What can we expect at a 1·2·3 Sing With Me class?

1·2·3 Sing With Me classes introduce babies, toddlers & preschoolers to music and numbers in a fun atmosphere.

Our class coordinators are there to help make your time at 1·2·3 Sing With Me an enjoyable one for both of you.

Each class is full of lively songs, nursery rhymes, puppets & games. It may seem daunting at first, but don’t worry, you’ll soon become familiar with our favourite songs and able to join in after just a few classes! The first music group I took my son to, I was amazed at how many songs I had forgotten and how many I had never even heard before.

Each hour long class allows plenty of time to cover all the material each week, even allowing for the unpredictability of babies and toddlers!

Our classes give you the added benefit of meeting parents with children of a similar age.

Not forgetting Bouncer, our loveable canine character who pops up every week to play peek-a-boo for the adoring children.

Will I Need to Sing too?

Parent participation is a good thing and something we encourage throughout the term. We familiarise you with songs and nursery rhymes you may have forgotten from your childhood and introduce a few new ones too. We play music as a group, we sing as a group, we dance as a group and importantly we have fun as a group. And the more you take part, the more your child will gain from the class. Rest assured, you don't need to sing like Pavarotti to impress your child. You'll be amazed how your little one responds when he can see everyone around him, and especially you, singing and dancing and having lots of fun.

Why Numbers?

Babies like the world to be ordered so the sooner they start understanding about order the better it is for them. Simple things to begin with can help encourage an interest in numbers & maths. Just like you talk to baby about everyday things, you can also count things - the number of muslins, or bibs, or wipes – everyday objects that you may be using more than one of. You may be out on a walk and count the number of trees you see or cars. Keep it simple and your baby will begin to understand that your words are related to the objects that she sees.

How Can I Help My Child to Develop Numeracy Skills?

Babies as young as six months can understand some number concepts. They begin noticing groupings of objects so we, at 1·2·3 Sing With Me, introduce this concept in songs, such as “Ten Green Frogs Sitting on the Wall”. At a year old, they can look at their drinking cups and decide which one has more water and that's the one they want. I’m sure you’ve noticed this!!! They also start to recognise objects and shapes, which are the basics of geometry. How clever! Around about 18 months some toddlers can count things. But all children develop at different rates so there is no best way of approaching the teaching of mathematical concepts. But there are things you can do to encourage the understanding of logic and problem solving in preparation for maths. Start by coming along to 1·2·3 Sing With Me. We have lots of great ideas to share!

I have a baby and a toddler. Which class should I choose?

Our class for 6months – 3years would be a good choice, as you can bring both children along, however your class coordinator will advise you depending on the ages of the other children in the classes at that time. Please note that it is your responsibility to keep your child/children safe during the class.
